Nicole Flood, pediatric speech-language pathologist and owner of Balanced Speech Therapy in Houston, Texas
  • Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, State of Texas

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP), American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)

Nicole is the founder and speech-language pathologist behind Balanced Speech Therapy. She established the practice with a simple goal: to provide high-quality, individualized speech therapy that meets children where they are, both developmentally and physically. She believes every child communicates in their own unique way and deserves support that is respectful, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based practice.

Nicole's approach is child-led, neurodiversity-affirming, and family-centered. She is passionate about creating an environment where children feel safe, engaged, and empowered to communicate. Rather than focusing on changing who a child is, Nicole partners with families to foster meaningful communication skills that support connection, participation, and confidence in everyday life.

Nicole's passion for understanding child development and communication began during her undergraduate studies at Trent University, where she earned an Honours Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Her education provided a strong foundation in child development, cognition, learning, and human behavior—knowledge that continues to shape her therapeutic approach.

She went on to earn a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders (Speech-Language Pathology) from Radford University, where she received advanced clinical training in the assessment and treatment of communication disorders across the lifespan.

Nicole has experience working with individuals across a variety of medical and educational settings. Her clinical background includes working with toddlers, preschoolers, school-aged children, adolescents, adults, and older adults in private practice, schools, home health, inpatient rehabilitation units, and acute care hospitals.

Nicole believes children learn best through meaningful interactions and experiences within their natural environments. Whether therapy takes place while playing on the floor, reading books together, exploring a playground, or participating in everyday routines at home, her focus is on helping children develop communication skills that are functional, meaningful, and easily carried over into daily life.

Nicole is committed to lifelong learning and regularly participates in continuing education focused on evidence-based assessment and intervention. Her areas of advanced training and clinical interest include neurodiversity-affirming practice, autism, Gestalt Language Processing (GLP), Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), early language development, and family-centered intervention. By staying current with emerging research and best practices, she strives to provide thoughtful, individualized care that reflects the unique needs of every child and family.
